Before texting your customers with your SlickText account, you will need to register your business. You will be assigned a temporary 10-digit long code.
You can choose from the following types of texting numbers:
Local Phone Number
Text-to-Landline
Toll-Free Number
Dedicated Short Code
What is a Local Phone Number (10DLC)
A 10DLC (10-digit long code) is a phone number with your area code that can be provisioned for your business or organization to send and receive text messages. This option is the most affordable.
There are some very specific regulations to using 10DLC numbers. You will be required to provide us with some business specific business information, campaign usage, and three examples of campaigns you send (if currently using SMS) or that you plan to send (if just getting started with SMS).
A third-party organization named The Campaign Registry partners with mobile carriers like Verizon, serves as the authority in brand verification before a company can receive a texting number. Upon verification and a Trust Score assignment, The Campaign Registry determines the delivery speed the business can send over their 10DLC.
The registration process is required so mobile carriers know in advance the types of messages you will send over your phone number. This helps prevent your messaging being incorrectly recognized by their bots as SPAM essentially ensuring message delivery.
What is the throughput for a 10DLC?
The volume throughput over a 10DLC can range from 3 to 180 MPS (messages per second). The Campaign Registry assigns a Brand Trust Score from 0-100 that indicates the highest delivery speed.
If a Brand (business), uses multiple 10DLCs, each 10DLC will be assigned the same throughput based on the brand's Trust Score.
Brand Trust Scores depend on:
Business coverage size (smaller organizations tend to receive low Brand Trust Scores)
If they were able to easily evaluate the legal business information initially submitted for verification
What is a Text-to-Landline Number?
A Text-to-Landline is when your landline is enabled to send and receive text messages. This does not affect the voice service. Your phone number must be a landline and not a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). You will need to provide us with your phone carrier.
A text-to-landline10DLC (10-digit long code) also requires The Campaign Registry to verify your brand and authorize your campaign use cases.
What is the throughput for a Text-to-Landline Number?
The volume throughput over a text enabled landline can range from 30 to 225 MPS. The Campaign Registry assigns a Brand Trust Score from 0-100 that indicates the highest delivery speed.
If a brand is using multiple text-enabled landlines, each texting number is assigned the same throughput based on their Brand Trust Score (also known as a RISQ score, vetting score, or reputation score).
Brand Trust Scores depend on:
Business coverage size (smaller organizations tend to receive low Brand Trust Scores)
If they were able to easily evaluate the legal business information initially submitted for verification
What is a Toll-Free Texting Number?
A Toll-Free texting number allows businesses and organization to send and receive texts with a number with a prefix of 800, 888, 877, 866, 855, 844, or 833. Toll-Free texting is used primarily for sales, customer support, and marketing. After you have registered your business through your SlickText account, you will be assigned your own toll-free texting number.
What is the throughput for a Toll-Free Number?
The default throughput for a Toll-Free number is 3-150+ MPS (message parts per second). High throughput TFN require additional verification.
What is a Short Code?
Short codes are 5 to 6-digit numbers used for sending and receiving SMS. Short codes are often easier to remember than a 10DLC or Toll-Free number making them ideal for promoting keyword opt-ins.
What is the throughput for a Short Code?
Short codes offer a guaranteed high throughput, starting at 100 messages per second (MPS), unlimited message volume, and the lowest amount of carrier filtering. Because of this, short codes are best suited for high volume, critical messages. However, they are the most costly.
